The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s bomb squad was called out to the area of Oakdale Road and Merle Avenue on Tuesday for a report of a suspicious, unattended package at a bus stop bench.

The package turned out to be a gym bag with clothes inside.

The bench is located on Merle in front of Orchard Supply Hardware. According to Modesto police, the person who reported the bag said it sounded as though it were ticking.

Oakdale Road was closed between Briggsmore Avenue and Merle for about an hour.

Starbucks, Orchard Supply Hardware and Prime Shine Car Wash were evacuated.

Businesses across of Oakdale were not evacuated.
