Ceres teacher's aide arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on teen

Ceres police have arrested an instructional aide who worked with special needs students after, they say, she sexually abused a male student, authorities announced today.

Officials have not said whether the victim had special needs.

Stacey Goodloe, 35, of Ceres has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. She has worked for the school district since 2005, said Ceres Superintendent Walt Hanline.

As a paraprofessional instructional assistant, Goodloe "goes into classrooms and follows special education students, but there are other students in and around the area," Hanline said tonight.

Police and school officials had been alerted to a possible inappropriate relationship between a Ceres High School instructional assistant and a student.

Hanline said authorities believe the abuse has occurred "throughout the school year," but stressed that the investigation is not complete.

Friday about 4 p.m., police arrested Goodloe on suspicion of sexual assault. She was booked into Stanislaus County Jail but no longer is in custody.

Goodloe was arrested in connection with three felonies: being older than 21 and having intercourse with someone younger than 16; being older than 21 and participating in oral sex with someone younger than 16; and committing a lewd or lascivious act with a victim aged 14 or 15.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.

Ceres police Lt. Richard Collins said there has been no indication that there are other victims.

Police say they cannot release further details about the case because the victim is not an adult.

Goodloe could not be reached for comment Monday.

The school sent home a letter Monday informing Ceres High parents of Goodloe's arrest.

"In these situations we cannot say a lot because it is pending investigation and involving a minor," said Jay Simmonds, school spokesman. "We just felt it was important that parents understood what was going on."

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Jason Coley 538-5616.
