Coroner seeking family of man found dead in Stanislaus River

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office is looking for the family of a man who was found dead in the Stanislaus River in Oakdale on Friday.

Oakdale police responded to a call of a man found face-down in the river just west of the the Highway 120 overcrossing, said Stanislaus County sheriff’s Detective Tom Killian

The man was identified as Jerry Al Peters, 64, who was homeless and often camped along the river.

His cause of death is still under investigation but appears to be an accident, Killian said.

Peters is believed to have a daughter named Rebecca. She, other family members or anyone with information about Peters’ family is asked to call Killian at 209-567-4500.
