Body found in Stanislaus River is that of Riverbank man

A man found dead in the Stanislaus River on Saturday has been identified as Riverbank resident Nick Jenkins, 37, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

A kayaker on the river east of Jacob Meyers Park discovered the body. He left it undisturbed and called 911, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Jon McQueary, who added Friday that the determination of the cause of death awaits autopsy results. Detectives said there was no obvious indication of foul play.

The body “didn’t appear to be in the water an extended period,” McQueary said at the time. “It definitely hadn’t been there a few days.”

The spot where the body was found is roughly where Arrowwood Drive runs along the river.
