Info: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County is seeking sponsorships and participants for its second annual Battle of the Paddles pingpong tournament fundraiser. Sponsorships are available from $1,500 to $25,000; individual tickets are $100. Attendees may try their hand at darts and other games or enjoy artwork, and food and bar stations. What: HUTTON HOUSE VOLUNTEERS

Info: The Center for Human Services seeks volunteers for its runaway and homeless youth center, Hutton House. Volunteers receive 18 hours of initial training and are asked to make a one-year commitment to serve four volunteer hours per week. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, attend an interview and all training, demonstrate ability to fulfill duties and time commitments, and pass TB and fingerprint clearance. 50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Miss California would be visiting the Stanislaus County Fair on behalf of a Miss California sponsor. Sandra Becker, 18, of South Laguna, Los Angeles County, was said to have aspirations for Broadway and the goal of attaining Miss America. She also met with Miss Stanislaus County, Sue Willson of Modesto.
