Body found in Stanislaus River in Riverbank

A kayaker on the Stanislaus River east of Jacob Meyers Park discovered a body in the water Saturday afternoon.

The person found the body, which appears to be that of a male adult, shortly after noon, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon McQueary. The kayaker left the body undisturbed and called 911, he said.

The body “didn’t appear to be in the water an extended period,” McQueary said. “It definitely hadn’t been there a few days.”

The spot where the body was found is roughly where Arrowwood Drive runs along the river, McQueary said. There was no obvious indication of cause of death, he said, and the department’s dive team and detectives were on scene Saturday afternoon to investigate.
