YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the California Water Project Authority approved a softly worded clause in a contract between the Modesto Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The clause permitted the cancellation of a 10-year agreement between MID and PGE on a year’s notice. The contract, which required approval by the state railroad and district securities commissions, called for MID to purchase PGE’s power facilities for $325,000 and allowed MID to take all the surplus electricity it needed until 1954.
