Riverbank council will get update on districts, festival
The City Council will get updates Tuesday evening on the proposed switch to district elections and planning for the town’s biggest annual event.
The council will consider scheduling more public workshops on possible ways of dividing Riverbank into four council districts. The mayor would continue to be elected at large.
Many local governments and school districts have switched to districts in an effort to boost minority representation. Riverbank voters would decide on the final map.
The council will hear about the 40th annual Riverbank Cheese & Wine Exposition, expected to draw thousands of people downtown Oct. 10 and 11. It is in its second year of management by promoter Chris Ricci, who also puts on the X-Fest in Modesto each year.
City staff plans a brief update on possible expansion of Riverbank’s sphere of influence, which indicates where future development should take place. An in-depth update is planned for the Aug. 11 council meeting.
