Info: The Modesto Guardian Angels Safety Patrol and the Vargas family are hosting a vigil, barbecue and poster campaign. Frankie Vargas was shot to death July 29, 2013, in what his family believes was a case of mistaken identity. The case remains unsolved.
What: CIVICS SUMMIT

Where: Modesto Centre Plaza, 1000 L St.

YESTERYEARS
100 YEARS AGO: The Tidewater Southern Railway offered travel to San Francisco and back for $2.95 and the ticket was good for 7 days, or just weekend travel for $2.55 and good to return Tuesday morning. Staterooms could also be reserved. The ticket office was at 822 Ninth St. in Modesto.
