YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Walter W. Thompson of Modesto, a former state commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, was appointed as a member of the VFW national bylaws, rules, procedure and ritual committee. He was appointed by John A. Jenkins of Birmingham, Ala., the commander-in-chief of the VFW in the U.S. Thompson served his position at the 66th annual national convention for the VFW in Chicago.
