Firefighters battle wildfire near Santa Nella
Firefighters are battling a 1,000 acre wildfire in western Merced County, authorities said.
According to CalFire, the fire, located near Interstate 5 and McCabe Road, was estimated at 1,033 acres and 50 percent contained as of Sunday evening. It was reported late Saturday night. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Roughly 800 firefighters have been dispatched to the blaze. The possibility of thunderstorms in the area is complicating firefighting plans.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
