Success & Service: Boys & Girls Club gets national honor for marketing
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County earned recognition in May from the national organization for marketing and communications during the 109th National Conference in Chicago.
The Stanislaus group outpaced hundreds of other clubs nationwide for the best marketing strategy honor for its “Great Futures Start Here” campaign. Kenni Friedman, chairwoman of the board for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Stanislaus County, went to Chicago to receive the award.
Civil Air Patrol’s Fulton promoted to major
Charlene Fulton of the Civil Air Patrol’s Lt. Col. Arthur King Composite Squadron was promoted to major in May and received her gold oak leaves last month from Maj. Jon Domke.
Fulton joined the Civil Air Patrol more than five years ago and became one of the founding members when it rechartered in 2010. She serves as the safety officer, transportation officer and administrative officers, while also working as the transportation officer throughout the Central Valley.
Modestan honored by American Red Cross
Bob Bradley of Modesto received the Clara Barton Award from the American Red Cross for his volunteerism with the Stanislaus County branch of the organization. The honor was given at the annual Red Cross meeting at Raley Field in Sacramento in June, though Bradley was unable to attend.
Grant for minorities to get doctorates at UC Merced
A grant from the National Institutes of Health will create a pipeline to doctoral degrees in biomedical and behavioral sciences at UC Merced, for underrepresented minority students from California State University, Fresno.
The program will recruit four to eight Fresno State students each year who demonstrate the commitment and potential to complete a Ph.D. program at UC Merced. The grant, which is the first of its kind at UC Merced, will support and train 36 students over a total of five years.
