Info: Woodland West Community Neighborhood will host Modesto City Manager Jim Holgersson for a presentation of the Safer Neighborhoods Initiative, the half-cent sales tax increase that will be on the November ballot. What: TASTES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

Where: Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 313 Tokay Ave.

What: COMPUTER USERS GROUP MEETING

When: Thursday, 6 p.m.

Where: Denny’s Restaurant, 1525 McHenry Ave.

Info: The Modesto PC Users Group general meeting will feature Darren Fix, middle school science teacher, who will give a presentation titled “How Technology is Used in Today’s Classroom?” Presentation is a forum to brief noneducators on how technology has become an integral component in education. What: FAMILY DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHT

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Where: Salida branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 4835 Sisk Road

Info: Children and their families can share a family-friendly movie and picnic dinner at the library. This month’s movie is “Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel.” This program is a part of the Salida library’s “Tuesdays are Family Days” series. Children can come in their pajamas. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket to sit on. For more information, call the Salida library at 209-543-7353.

75 YEARS AGO: Two local businesses announced sales. Hammer’s, 920 10th Street in Modesto, had a three-day sale set for July 18-20 with cotton frocks for 69 cents, regularly $1.98. Michell’s Fountain Lunch, 14th and J Streets in Modesto, had a sale for giant ice cream pies for 50 cents. They offered 21 flavors, filled with fresh fruits.
