A motorcyclist who died in a collision on Highway 99 Tuesday morning was splitting lanes and driving at high speed, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 24-year-old Hughson resident Ireland Rolon.

She was riding a 2023 Kawasaki north on Highway 99, just north of the Keyes Road on-ramp, when she “split” the lanes of traffic, driving between two vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Rolon clipped the right front side of a Kia Soul, which propelled her and the motorcycle into the back of a Ford Fusion, according to the CHP. Rolon came to rest in the roadway and later was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP said Rolon was traveling at high speed but did not say how fast she was going.

The driver of the Kia, a 40-year-old Merced woman, and the driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old Turlock woman, were not injured.
