Fire in Modesto’s College area damages vacant home

A house fire in Modesto’s College area was quickly extinguished on Tuesday night, but not before the vacant, boarded-up home suffered major damage.

Modesto firefighters were called to the home on the corner of Del Vista Avenue on Kearney Avenue across from Pike Park at 7:40 p.m.

Neighbors told firefighters that there could be homeless people inside the single-story home, including a pregnant woman, according to Battalion Chief Hugo Patino of the Modesto Fire Department.

Firefighters quickly went into offensive mode, getting the fire under control in about 15 minutes. They quickly searched the house, but found nobody inside.

There was no immediate cause of the fire, which started inside, or estimated damage to the home. No neighboring houses were threatened.
