Success & Service: Soroptimists install officers, directors, delegates at luncheon

Soroptimist International of Modesto has installed new officers for the 2015-16 year. The installation luncheon was held June 25 at The Seasons on McHenry Avenue.

New officers are President Mona Martinez, President Elect Darlene Rodriguez-Silva, Recording Secretary Marilyn Parman, Corresponding Secretary Yolanda Rivera, Treasurer Charlie Rodgers, Assistant Treasurer Jennifer Cowell and Immediate Past President Debra Campbell.

New directors are Sher Grotts, Dianne Marsh King and Ruth Bright. New delegates are Truda Faulkner and Debra Campbell, and new alternate delegates are Peggy O’Donnell and Lynne Meredith.

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Soroptimists of year also named

Soroptimist International of Modesto has selected Lynne Meredith and Deanna Toy as its Soroptimists of the year.

Meredith has been a Soroptimist since 1991. She has served as president, parliamentarian and in other board offices. Her most recent commitment has been to lead the Live Your Dream program for junior high school girls.

Toy has been a Soroptimist since 1996, and her focus has been on the organization’s literacy program and scholarships. Her favorite award is the Violet Richardson Award, recognizing young women who make the community a better place through volunteer efforts, with a focus on supporting the Soroptimist mission.

Raceway honors Save Mart leader

At the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR race June 28, the Sonoma Raceway honored the legacy of Bob Piccinini by renaming the area at Turn 11 after Save Mart’s former chairman and CEO. Race officials unveiled the new monument over the weekend, marking the site that’s now known as Piccinini Plaza. The company’s co-presidents and general managers attended the dedication, which was held just before the race. Save Mart is one of the longest-running corporate sponsors in all of NASCAR cup racing. Piccinini, who was a race enthusiast, began Save Mart’s partnership with the raceway in 1992.
