Info: The Institute for Principle conference will feature speakers who will talk about problems in the health care industry, Biblical truth and its relevance to health care laws, and how Christians should approach public policy. Summit cost $20 per day or $30 for both. A related film, “Wait Till It’s Free,” will be shown at 7 p.m. July 30 at the State Theatre, $10. YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: A field of 14 candidates entered into the third annual Maid of Stanislaus County contest. The winner of the contest would be selected Aug. 2, the opening day of the county fair. When chosen, the maid would reign over the fair and represent the county at the California State Fair in Sacramento. Twin sisters from Downey High School, Francene and Colleen Rhodes, helped to make up the field of 14 that were chosen from around the county.
