For a second day, the National Weather Service’s predicted high temperature didn’t come to pass.

Not that anyone’s complaining.

The high Wednesday was expected to be near 106 degrees. But the Modesto Irrigation District, which collects data at its downtown office and Modesto Reservoir, reported the thermometer reading topped out at 101.

That’s still plenty hot, and Thursday should be, too, with a predicted high near 100.
