Police responding after hearing gunshots in downtown Turlock found seven people shot, authorities said Saturday morning.

According to a press release posted on the Turlock Police Department Facebook page, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. in the 100 block of South First Street. The site is roughly a block west of the intersection of West Main Street and Golden State Boulevard.

“Several 911 calls followed about a shooting,” the release states. “Officers located seven gunshot victims with non-life threatening injuries.”

Sgt. Michael Parmley of Turlock police said the shooting occurred outside the La Cantina bar on South First Street.

The victims suffered a variety of injuries, from a gunshot wound to the face to grazing injuries, Parmley said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.

At least six people were taken to local hospitals. Investigators are trying to identify and find a single shooter who was involved.

Parmley said detectives were at the scene for hours early Saturday interviewing victims and witnesses of the shooting. “We’re in the early stages of investigation,” he said.

No information on what precipitated the shooting or any potential suspects was immediately available.

According to local news headlines, three other shooting incidents occurred at La Cantina bar between June 2020 and January 2022.

Police said anyone with information about the shooting early Saturday may call Detective Tim Redd at 209-664-7325.
