MODESTO

What: SONS IN RETIREMENT MEETING

When: Thursday, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: The Seasons, 945 McHenry Ave.

Info: The Sons in Retirement, Branch 144, monthly luncheon program featuring Michele Laverty, director of the National Ag Science Center, and the 53-foot Ag in Motion Traveling Science Lab will educate seventh- and eighth-graders in Stanislaus County. Sons in Retirement is a club for retired men who meet to renew friendships, discuss issues and plan participation in activities such as golf, bowling, pickleball, dining and traveling. What: DOCENT TRAINING

When: July 13, 20 and 27, 9 to 11 a.m.

Where: McHenry Museum, 14th and I streets

Info: The McHenry Museum is holding docent training sessions. Docents serve four hours each month. Participants must be 18 years of age. For more information, go to www.mchenrymuseum.org.


Oakdale

What: TIE-DYE T-SHIRT CRAFT

When: July 6, 3:30 p.m.

Where: Oakdale branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 151 S. First Ave.

Merced

What: PARK REVITALIZATION PROJECT DEDICATION

When: Tuesday, 11:15 a.m.

Where: McNamara Park, 1040 Canal St., between the artificial and natural turf fields

Info: A revitalized McNamara Park will be dedicated and have a grand opening. The McNamara Park Revitalization Project included the removal of existing softball and baseball fields; construction of three new soccer/all-purpose fields; installation of a perimeter ornamental wrought-iron fence designed by students from Merced and Golden Valley high schools; new landscaping of the boulevard and picnic area; replacement of restrooms and playground equipment; and installation of security cameras. YESTERYEARS

25 YEARS AGO: The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved a working budget, $306.4 million, for the 1990-91 fiscal year. The move would enable the county to continue paying its bills if Gov. Deukmejian and the Legislature could not find sources of revenue to bridge a $3.6 million shortfall, as stated by Lamar Bartholomew, the county’s chief administrative officer.
