Grass fire chars several acres in south Modesto
A fire in south Modesto early Wednesday evening charred several acres of vegetation and shrouded a neighborhood with smoke.
But nobody suffered injuries, and although several homes were threatened, Modesto-area firefighters helped to limit the damage to only an outbuilding, according to Battalion Chief Tim Tietjen of the Modesto Fire Department.
The fire broke out about 6:15 p.m. in a field northwest of the intersection of Crater and Cascade avenues near Crows Landing Road.
