What: Native Sons of the Golden West Modesto Parlor No. 11

Where: Perko’s, 901 Carpenter Road

Info: A no-host dinner begins around 5:30 pm followed by interesting programs regarding California History. The program, “A postcard view of Tuolumne County”, will be presented by Jonathon Hicks. The Parlor will be discussing other family activities attractive to new and younger members. The public is invited to attend these meetings. Where: Hobby Lobby, 2801 McHenry Ave.

Info: The Sundar STEAM Academy will be providing students in grades 3-5, free homework help every Wednesday through May 20. What: South Modesto Municipal Advisory Council

When: Thursday, 6 pm.

Where: Harvest Hall, 3800 Cornucopia way

Info: The South Modesto MAC meets every 2nd Thursday of the month. The meeting will feature reports from the CHP, Sherrif's Office, Stanislaus County Supervisor Jim DeMartini, Modesto Fire and other community agencies. What: Second Sunday Monthly Breakfast

When: Sunday, 8 a.m.

Where: Coulterville Old Schoolhouse, Corner of Broadway and Cemetery streets

Info: The Northern Mariposa County History Center (NMCHC) holds its Second Sunday Monthly Breakfast with pancakes, eggs, ham or sausage, and fresh fruit. Hot coffee, tea, cocoa, orange juice and milk are available. Adults $5, children $3, family of four $15. Proceeds cover operating expenses of the Coulterville museum. OAKDALE

What: Oakdale Library used book sale

When: Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 South Second St.

Info: The Friends of the Oakdale Library will hold a used book sale. Funds raised will go to help augment programs and materials at the Oakdale Library and to help with other library needs. Donations of gently used books and DVDs may be dropped off at the center on Monday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. No textbooks, encyclopedias, Readers Digest condensed books, magazines or damaged items accepted. RIVERBANK

What: Income Tax Preparation Assistance

When: Wednesdays, 4-7:30 p.m.

Where: Riverbank Library, 3442 Santa Fe St.

Info: Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs will be offered through the last week in March at various Stanislaus County libraries. Volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will provide tax preparation assistance. Interested parties are encouraged to make an appointment, walk-ins may be helped if time permits. Taxpayers must bring ID and social security cards for each person who will be on their tax return and the prior year’s tax return, if available. SONORA

What: “History of Chinese Camp”

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Where: Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road

Info: Tuolumne County Historical Society invites the public to hear presenter Sheri Betz and Linda Cazares, teachers at Chinese Camp Science Academy. The teachers encouraged their 30 third through sixth grade students to research local history and to relate the stories that are included in a new brochure. The students paraphrased in their own words short vignettes highlighting Native American culture, the discovery of gold, the arrival of Chinese to the area around the school, Chinese heritage and Chinese Camp today. 25 YEARS AGO: Modesto High School students were to participate in the 16th annual California Academic Decathlon at California State University, Fresno. The Panther team would have gone against 41 other county championship teams from throughout the state. Edison - Stockton, Atwater and Summerville high schools were also in the state Academic Decathlon.
