What: US Too Prostate Cancer Support Group

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Sutter Memorial Conference Center, 1700 McHenry Ave., Suite 60B

Info: The support group will feature member Ken Willmarth, an 18 year prostate cancer survivor. Willmarth will tell his story, share his understanding of cancer, how to stay well during the fight and other helpful insight. Newcomers are welcome. What: Modesto Area Partners in Science lecture

Where: Modesto Junior College West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Info: Free lecture, “The History of Science,” by Professor Colin Milburn, UC Davis, sts.ucdavis.edu/people/milburn. Professor Milburn’s research focuses on the relations of literature, science, and technology. This talk will focus on the history of science and the impacts of science fiction and popular media on the history of science. The presentation will be in Sierra Hall 132. What: League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County Lunch and Learn Program

Where: Mimi’s Bistro and Bakery, 3401 Dale Road

Info: Daren Williams of the Almond Board of California will speak about “All Things Almond,” giving information on agricultural and economic aspects of this Stanislaus County crop. Info: The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Yosemite chapter, invites the public to its next lunch meeting. March’s meeting will feature guest speaker Adrenna Alkhas, marketing director for the Stanislaus County Fair. What: Bird Spotting Walk

When: Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Indigeny Reserve, 14679 Summers Lane

Info: Central Sierra Audubon Society will be hosting a bird walk at the Indigeny Reserve that boasts many unique spaces for birds to call home. The walk will last two to three hours and walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Rain or shine. What: Presentation: “The Power of a Dream”

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: CSU, Stanislaus Main Stage Theatre, 1 University Circle

Info: Collegiate and Olympic athlete, activist and educator, Tommie Smith, PhD, will speak in conjunction with Stanislaus State’s observance of Black History Month. Smith is known for increasing awareness of racial injustice while prompting a political controversy when he and John Carlos raised their clenched fists on the medalist podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. The presentation is on “The Power of a Dream,” and will focus on why it is important to give voice to the things that matter. The event is free to the public.
