The meeting will feature reports from the CHP, Sheriff's Office, Stanislaus County Supervisor Jim DeMartini, Modesto Fire and other community agencies. What: American Legion Post 74 burrito or omelet breakfast
When: Saturday, 7-11 a.m.
Where: Veterans Service Center, 3500 Coffee Road, Suite 15
Info: The American Legion Post 74 holds its third Saturday monthly breakfast with omelets made to order, breakfast burritos, country fried potatoes, link sausage, French toast, biscuits and gravy, orange juice and coffee. OAKDALE
What: Income Tax Preparation Assistance
When: Thursdays, 4-7:30 p.m.
Where: Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave.
Info: Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs will be offered through the last week in March at various Stanislaus County libraries. Volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will provide tax preparation assistance. Interested parties are encouraged to make an appointment, walk-ins may be helped if time permits. Taxpayers must bring ID and social security cards for each person who will be on their tax return and the prior year’s tax return, if available. What: Strength Training Class for Older Adults
When: Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Where: Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St.
Info: The Healthy Aging and Association will offer free strength training classes for ages 60 and over. The Young at Heart Strength Training classes work on strength, balance and flexibility to help reduce the risk of falling and to help participants maintain their independence. 40 YEARS AGO: It was reported that the California State Automobile Association predicted that retail gasoline would reach $1.50 a gallon by June and $2 by the end of the year. In Modesto, Gasco Station, owned by independent owner Lenny Sorrano, was selling gasoline for $1.12 a gallon. The association surveyed 611 stations between Northern California and Nevada, including six in Modesto, and found as of Feb. 1, 1980, the average cost was $1.18 for regular, $1.23 for premium and $1.225 for unleaded.
