The second train’s route would start in Oakland, make a stop in Riverbank and then move onto Bakersfield. Its sister train made the same journey but in reverse. Scheduled to be cut by the U.S. Department of Transportation, CalTrans and Amtrak reached a joint funding agreement that saved the service on Oct. 5, 1994.
