25 YEARS AGO: It was reported that proposed improvements to John Thurman Field had stalled between the City of Modesto and the minor league ownership team. The then home to the Modesto A’s, the single “A” affiliate to the Oakland Athletics, negotiations between the ball club's new Sacramento-based owners and the city stalled for the 40 year old stadium. It was so bad that no improvements would be done in time for the team’s home opener on April 11, 1995.
