What: 2020 Winter Math Academy

Info: The Healthy Aging Association is currently looking for responsible individuals who would like to make a difference in the lives of older adults. Volunteer openings range from 1-day events, once monthly or once/twice weekly. The opportunities vary from helping at a health fair to teaching chair exercise/balance classes to older adults. Info: The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) invites adults interested in helping others learn about gardening. UCCE Master Gardener volunteers learn University-based scientific information and then share that knowledge with the gardening community. Info: The Soroptimist International of Twain Harte invite the public to its all-you-can-eat crab feed. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Clam chowder, pasta, salad, all-you-can-eat crab and dessert will be offered. 40 YEARS AGO: It was reported that while stationed with the Army’s 97th Transportation Company out of Ft. Eustis, Virgina; former Modesto resident, Specialist 4 Andrew O. Salazar and fellow unit members were pressed into action for three months as part of Hurricane Frederic relief. The hurricane hit Mobile, Ala on Sept. 12, 1979, and the Army’s 97th Transportation Co., at the time was at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida for training, came to Mobile residents’ aid.
