40 YEARS AGO: It was reported that while stationed with the Army’s 97th Transportation Company out of Ft. Eustis, Virgina; former Modesto resident, Specialist 4 Andrew O. Salazar and fellow unit members were pressed into action for three months as part of Hurricane Frederic relief. The hurricane hit Mobile, Ala on Sept. 12, 1979, and the Army’s 97th Transportation Co., at the time was at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida for training, came to Mobile residents’ aid.
