Modesto’s Graffiti Cruise route Walk of Fame to get new inductees
Week two of June’s Graffiti Summer celebration heats up on Wednesday as 2015’s Walk of Fame inductees are celebrated on the Modesto Historic Graffiti Cruise Route in downtown.
The Historic Cruise Route marks the original era of cruising on 10th and 11th streets that inspired Modesto native George Lucas’ film “American Graffiti,” set in 1962. The Walk of Fame celebration, open to the public, will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on 10th Street between J and K streets.
The event runs in conjunction with Mid Valley Chevy Club’s Park ’n’ Shine that will host hundreds of classic cars and hot rods, also in downtown Modesto on Wednesday evening.
The Walk of Fame sidewalk markers celebrate legends of the Modesto cruising era – cruisers, racers, musicians, students, DJs and others, according to a news release.
Six inductees will join the walk this year: the Century Toppers Car Club, Bennie Furtado, Gerry Ramirez, Wendell Reed, Dennis Wilson and Charlie Reynolds.
Inductees from 2013 and 2014 are Leroy Applequist, Bart Bartoni, Chuck Billington, Candy Clark, Pete Hischier, Bo Hopkins, Paul Le Mat, George Lucas, Terry McGrath and Gene Winfield.
