What’s been a mild week – daily highs in Modesto ranging from 80 to 83 degrees – is heating up for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the high today will be near 88. The same high is forecast for Saturday, then climbing to near 92 on Sunday.

The days will be mostly sunny, too, so wear sunscreen and carry water if you’re heading for outdoor fun, like the 34th annual Modesto Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Festival on Saturday in Tuolumne River Regional Park or the 10th annual Graffiti Classic Car Show on Sunday at the McHenry Village shopping center.

Early next week is expected to be even hotter, with the weather service calling for a high near 97 on Monday, then 96 Tuesday.

From there, the forecast is for a slight drop, a high near 92 Wednesday and 91 Thursday.
