Science gets ‘Weird’ at Modesto elementary school
Science got “Weird, Wild and Wacky” at Franklin Elementary School in Modesto this week as students attending a weeklong camp made projects and examined cells. This year, organizers said, more girls than boys registered to attend. That’s good, because research shows that there is an underrepresentation of students of color and female students in science-, technology-, engineering- and mathematics-based courses and STEM-related careers. The camp is designed to serve as an opportunity to excite, engage and expose students to integrated science experiences in a fun format, organizers said.
