Human remains are reported in vehicle belonging to missing Calaveras man
Human remains were found Monday in a vehicle belonging to a Calaveras County man missing since August 2018, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Investigators are trying to confirm that the remains are those of Shannon David Scott, 66, of Wilseyville. He was reported missing after failing to arrive at an Aug. 29 appointment at the Sacramento Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Scott is a disabled Vietnam veteran, according to mymotherlode.com.
A resident found the vehicle down a Highway 16 embankment while tending property near Plymouth, a sheriff’s news release said. It is in Amador County, so sheriff’s deputies there are involved in the case, along with the California Highway Patrol.
The missing-person report in August prompted a search of Scott’s home, an aerial survey of his route to Sacramento, and tracing of his recent cellphone use and other activities. The Calaveras department also put out a “silver alert,” used for missing seniors.
Scott’s last cell phone use was determined to be on Aug. 30 in the Sloughhouse area of Highway 16. Other leads since then were fruitless, the release said.
