Authorities warn of widespread phone service outage in Tuolumne County

The Sonora Police Department posted on Facebook Thursday morning that there was a widespread phone service failure in Tuolumne County.

The department posted on its Facebook page at 6:52:

“Shortly after 1:00 am, the City of Sonora and County of Tuolumne experienced widespread cell and landline outages. Most City and County residential 9-1-1 landlines appear to be working but emergency calls are being routed through the Police Department at this time due to a temporary failure with the answering points.

“The Police Department and Sheriff’s Department have established communications with other local agencies and service to the community should not be interrupted.

“If you need assistance from either agency, you may utilize the 9-1-1 system to contact us. We recommend locating a landline for emergency calls to ensure a better connection.

“AT&T is aware of the issue and if working to isolate and identify the problem. AT&T has not been able to provide an anticipated time of repair.”
