Rock god Chris Cornell, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide with his bands Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave and solo efforts, will play the Gallo Center for the Arts in September.

Tickets – $49 to $99 – go on sale to the general public Saturday. They go on sale Tuesday to center founders, seat namers and Center Circle members, and on Wednesday to center “Friends, Friends+ and Amigos,” according to the center’s digital newsletter.

Cornell’s career began with Seattle trailblazers Soundgarden, “whose wild soundscapes combined visceral punk attitude with artistic depth,” according to his bio. “They were the first of their generation of Seattle bands to sign to a major label in 1989 and their work continued to evolve over the course of seven groundbreaking albums.” The group is perhaps known best for its hit “Black Hole Sun.”

In 1990, the side project Temple of the Dog saw him experiment with a more soulful style alongside future members of Pearl Jam. And as the millennium turned, he joined with three other musical pioneers from Rage Against the Machine to create Audioslave. The band released three albums and toured stadiums around the world, becoming the first American rock group to perform a massive free concert in Castro’s Cuba.

When Rolling Stone asked its readers to pick the best lead singers of all time, Cornell made the top 10. “Chris Cornell’s voice packs so much power that over the past 20 years, superstar collaborators have lined up to work with him – everyone from members of Rage Against The Machine to Santana, Pearl Jam and even hip-hop producer Timbaland,” according to Rollingstone.com.

Cornell also has branched into movie soundtrack work, including big-budget and independent cinema. He wrote and performed the theme song, “You Know My Name,” for the James Bond movie “Casino Royale” and the end title song “Live to Rise” for “The Avengers.” He did a duet with Joy Williams on his song “Misery Chain,” which appeared on the soundtrack of “12 Years a Slave,” and his song “The Keeper” from the 2011 Gerard Butler action movie “Machine Gun Preacher” was nominated for a Golden Globe.

The Gallo Center reports that in his solo acoustic concert there, Cornell will perform songs from throughout his entire career, as well as new songs from his highly anticipated forthcoming studio album, “Higher Truth,” to be released this fall.
