Modesto man dies from injuries suffered in crash

A 28-year-old Modesto man died Sunday night from injuries he suffered when the vehicle he was driving went off the road and crashed early that day.

About 2:05 a.m., Eric Soria was driving a 1999 Lexus sedan south in the 3700 block of Roselle Avenue in northeast Modesto when the vehicle went off the road, crashed into neighboring fences, rolled through a field and came to a stop in front of a house, according to police. The site of the wreck was just north of Sylvan Avenue.

Soria was found inside the vehicle and taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center.

The police Traffic Unit responded to the crash and is leading the investigation. “We are still seeking witnesses and investigating the events leading up to the collision,” traffic Officer Billy Boyle said in an email Friday morning.

An early report from the Modesto Police Department said alcohol and/or drugs, along with vehicle speed, might have been factors in the crash. “This portion of the investigation is still yet to be determined,” Boyle said Friday.

Anyone who saw the crash or has information about it is asked to email Boyle at boyleb@modestopd.com.

Friends of the Soria family have begun a GoFundMe drive, at www.gofundme.com/vna2jxw, to raise money for funeral expenses.
