Modesto store brings its A game, donates money to school
A monetary gift to their school was made even sweeter by the free Slurpees and pizza slices that a group of Sherwood Elementary School students got to enjoy Thursday afternoon.
The 30-plus students – plus a few siblings – were selected by teachers to visit the 7-Eleven store on McHenry Avenue at Woodrow Avenue after school. There, store owner Raj Ahuja and corporate representatives presented school staff with a check for $711.
“The recipient has to be youth-focused, like a school or a church group,” said Kevin Lea, a 7-Eleven field consultant, “and has to be within five miles of the store.”
The gift to Sherwood was the third by a Modesto store, he said; the Oakdale Road location donated to Rose Avenue Elementary, and the store at McHenry and Morris avenues gave to Enslen Elementary.
A Turlock 7-Eleven donated to a youth softball program, Lea said. Groups interested in being considered for Project-A-Game grants can reach Lea at (702) 596-3318.
Sherwood Elementary will be using the money for P.E. equipment, said office manager Christine McGuire.
