YESTERYEARS

50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Hershey Chocolate Corp. would open its doors to visitors the next day. The multimillion-dollar facility in Oakdale gave visitors a tour of the plant and insight into the art of making candy. The opening-day program also included music by the Oakdale Elementary and Oakdale Union High School bands, followed by a dedication of the plant with executives from Hershey, Oakdale Mayor Earl Voorhees and Rep. John J. McFall.
