What: CAR SHOW AND HOSPITAL INFORMATION

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Modesto Masonic Hall, 800 Rose Ave.

Info: The car show will be open to all vehicles; entry fee for vehicles is $30, free to spectators. Prizes to be awarded. Several local vendors. The event will be a benefit for the ancillary functions performed by local Shriners. Current information about Shriners Hospitals for Children will be available. What: PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP

When: Wednesday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Telle Center, 1600 Carver Road

Info: Modesto Parkinson’s Support Group meeting will feature guest speaker Dr. Monica Wood, an orthopedic surgeon, who will speak on preventing falls. Where: Oakdale branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 151 S. First Ave.

Info: Friends of the Oakdale Library annual meeting will focus on Book Clubs and feature programs on information about some of the established clubs in Oakdale as well as information on starting a new club. What: DISTRICTING COMMITTEE MEETING

When: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Merced Senior Center, 755 W. 15th St.

Info: The Independent Districting Advisory Committee is holding a community meeting to gather public ideas on the creation of six City Council election districts. Attendees will hear about the districting process and how to help, including drawing their own maps. Translation services in Spanish and Hmong will be available. What: KIDS’ FISH, SWIM AND PLAY DAY

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: San Luis Reservoir, Highway 152, San Luis Creek – O’Neill Forebay

Info: A “Catch of the Day” kids fishing, swimming and play day will be offered at San Luis Creek for children ages 3 to 15. Free bait provided. Free strawberries and whipped cream and free crafts. Free pontoon boat rides (weather permitting) for ages 6 and older; first come, first served. Park day use fee $10 per car. For more information, call Jennifer or Howard at (209) 827-5353.

YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Oakdale Union Grammar School district spent an average of $67.40 of its funds on its 678 pupils, on average daily attendance for the 1938-39 school year. This was made public in a study of the expenditures of elementary school districts in California by the California Taxpayers Association. The broke down to: $50.04 on teacher salaries and $17.36 on other accounts.
