Goodwin Liu, associate justice of the California Supreme Court, will be the keynote speaker at Law Day 2015 on Friday at the Gallo Center for the Arts. His topic is titled “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law.”

The event marks the 57th year of the luncheon where the annual Liberty Bell Award and Stanislaus County Bar Association scholarship winners are announced.

This year’s Liberty Bell Award will go to Lawrence L. Giventer, author and professor emeritus at California State University, Stanislaus. Pete Rodrigues of Whitmore Charter and Michael Sanders of Hughson High School will receive the local bar association’s scholarships, and Damaris Esquivel of Enochs High will receive the John Grisez Scholarship.

The event begins at noon. Contact Deana Skelton, executive director of the Stanislaus County Bar Association, at (209) 571-5729 or deana@stanbar.org for more information.

Still volunteering

At 91, Betty Radcliffe is in her 31st year serving as a volunteer at Scenic General Hospital and the Health Services Agency. She still writes the agency’s newsletter and was among those honored by the agency during a lunch event as part of Volunteers Week.
