40 YEARS AGO: It was reported that the Modesto Board of Education considered restoring nearly $420,000 in cuts from the city high school district budget, if Modesto voters passed the district’s tax override measure. Besides restoring the $420,000 in cuts, other budget adjustments included; $200,000 to forestall other planned cuts dealing with class size reduction, $300,000 to boost district reserves, $200,000 to go toward an adoption of an average salary for city teachers and $176,250 to guard against inflation in all budget categories.
