25 YEARS AGO: Ceres High School, through the Regional Occupation Program for Law Enforcement, instituted a program that had utilized members of its student body. The students completed a one-year course in the ROP for Law Enforcement and scored 100 percent on tests regarding police codes and procedures. The students were then allowed to secure their own campus while wearing bright blue jackets and carrying walkie-talkies. Their duties included checking passes, enforcing the dress code and other various duties. The only thing they were not allowed to do was touch fellow students while escorting them to the office. The students in the ROP program had plans for a career as a cop and the work was considered an internship.
