The care center is an offshoot of Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, but it’s not the hospital’s first foray into Stanislaus County. Local patients have been cared for at the hospital since it opened in 1952, officials said.

In 2002, Valley Children’s opened its first outpatient specialty care center in Modesto to support pediatricians, family practice and obstetrical physicians in the region. The McHenry Specialty Care Center saw nearly 9,900 outpatient visits last year.

That number is expected to triple to more than 27,500 annual visits in the next decade. The Pelandale Specialty Care Center is aimed at helping to meet this growing need. It is expected to open in late 2018.
