MODESTO
What: Discussion Panel, ‘Church & State’
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Modesto JC - East Campus, 435 College Ave.
Info: A discussion panel is scheduled for Modesto Junior College’s production of “Church & State”. The performance is in the Studio Theatre, Room 222 of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus. Church & State, written by Jason Odell Williams, is a timely look at the politics of religion, gun control, and the danger and power in telling the unfiltered truth. The panel includes Carole Stark, representing the James Brady committee; Jayson Roysdon, Second Amendment advocate; Pastor Greg Savage, Calvary Baptist Church in Modesto; Kerri Stephens, MJC speech communications instructor, and Pastor Michael Schiefelbein, College Avenue United Church of Christ. The discussion will be moderated by Randy Seifkin, MJC professor emeritus of political science. The play runs approximate 80 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are $11 general admission and $9 for students and seniors, and are available online at http://mjc.tix.com and at the MJC Box Office, open Tuesday through Friday, Noon to 5 p.m., or by phone at 209-575-6776 during these hours. Tickets are also available at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to show time.

Where: Stanislaus County Veterans Center, 3500 Coffee Rd.

When: Thursday, Feb. 8, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Info: Latino Community Roundtable will be celebrating Black History Month with guest speakers and attorneys Angelica Anguiano and Jesse Alexander, III. What: Living History Day
When: Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Angels Camp Museum, 753 S. Main St.
Info: Visitors will be transported back in time every second Saturday of each month as docents re-create life in a Calfornia Gold Rush town. Artisan's exhibits in the Mining and Ranching building include a carpenter's shop, print shop and textile shop, each staffed by informed docents ready to demonstrate their respective craft. What: Guided Snowshoe Walks
When: Saturdays, 1 p.m.
Where: Calaveras Big Trees, 1170 CA-4
Info: The Calaveras Big Trees Association invites the public on its guided snow-shoe walks, snow conditions permitting. Snowshoes are provided free to the first 30 people who show up prior to the 1 p.m. starting time. Snow shoes are available for adults and children, or you can bring your own. Suggested check by 12:30 p.m. to make sure there are adequate snow shoes available. If you use the park's snowshoes you must stay with the guide. Experience on snowshoes is not required. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. The snow-shoe walks take about 90 minutes. Info: The Oakdale Women’s Club invites the public to its lunch buffet meetings, the first Tuesday of each month through May. The club is for women whose goal is to promote civic improvements to the City of Oakdale. The Guest Speaker is Teresa Hammond of The Oakdale Leader. 75 YEARS AGO: The Empire School Board choose Mrs. Katherine Mosier, a teacher in the seventh grade at Empire Union Grammar School, as acting principal of the school. Mosier was replacing former principal Duane Vosburg, who left due to entering the armed forces. The school board choose Mosier after talking with fellow teachers and faculty members as the person to take over as the principal. The school board planned to contract with another teacher to replace Mosier in her former seventh-grade class.
