Kaepernick completes his $1 million pledge to help community groups

After saying in September 2016 that he would donate $1 million to various social justice organizations., Turlock son and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has completed doing just that.

On Wednesday, he and the musician Usher each donated $10,000 to H.O.M.E. (Helping Oppressed Mothers Endure), a Georgia-based nonprofit that, according to its website, helps "single mothers who are working and/or going to school, survive the 'tough times' and persevere towards an 'appointed time' for success in life."

H.O.M.E. was the final recipient of #10for10, as Kaepernick dubbed the method of disbursing the last $100,000 of his million-dollar pledge.

According to a recap on his Kaepernick7.com website, "When Colin Kaepernick got down to the final $100,000 of his Million Dollar Pledge, he asked 10 of his friends to choose organizations that he should donate to. Shortly after, he rolled out his last $10k per day over the span of 10 days, and those same 10 friends matched one of his final donations per day!"

Among those 10 donations, Kap was joined by the Warriors' Steph Curry in giving $10,000 each to United Playaz in San Francisco and Curry's teammate Kevin Durant in giving the same amount to Debug San Jose. Tennis great Serena Williams matched Kaepernick's donation to Imagine L.A., and hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg did the same to aid Dallas-based Mothers Against Police Brutality.

Some of the other organizations and the amounts they received during the pledge are, as CNN and Kaepernick7.com reported: $25,000 to DREAM, a baseball organization in Harlem, N.Y.; $25,000 to United We Dream, a organization helping immigrant youth; $50,000 to Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to those in need, oftentimes people unable to leave their homes; and $50,000 to Life After Hate, an educational and rehabilitative organization in Chicago started by former members of hate groups.

The Pitman High School grad, who remains unsigned, says on Kaepernick7.com that the giving isn't over. He's begun a #10for10 Encore: "#10for10 was such a success that he couldn’t stop there! More of his celebrity friends are teaming up to donate an additional $10,000 to one of the organizations that Kaepernick donated to in his Million Dollar Pledge!"
