50 YEARS AGO: It was reported that the population of Modesto had reached above 50,000 in the previous month. This was due in part to residential and industrial growth within the city. The growth also impacted the City’s 450 classrooms in 21 elementary and three junior high schools in the Modesto City School District. To combat the over flow, a $3.25 million bond was placed on a special election ballot, for the following week, to help finance construction of more classroom buildings and facilities.
