Info: The Save Mart Companies, with the help of The National Future Farmers of America Organization, has committed itself to helping to cultivate future leaders in the agricultural industry. To help nurture young talent in this field, Save Mart will offer fifteen $1,000 scholarships. The National Future Farmers of America Organization will help administer the program. FFA’s selection process takes into account a student’s entire background: FFA involvement, work experience, academics and more. Applications are due Thursday, Feb. 1, online by 5 p.m. Applicants must reside in the California and Northern Nevada communities that Save Mart serves. What: Calling designers and models

Info: Manos Unidas of South Modesto is calling for designers and models to help transform trash into fashion. This effort will help South Modesto with recycling and art in the community. Classes began Thursday, Jan. 11, and go each Thursday till Feb. 22. The classes are free for the designers and models. What: Community work day at Dos Rios Ranch
When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon
Where: Garcia Farming, 3559 Shiloh Road
Info: The community is invited to collect willow cuttings for planting later in the spring as part of the ongoing habitat restoration work at the Dos Rios Ranch. It is estimated that about 40,000 cuttings will be needed for this next phase of restoration. Volunteers are encouraged to bring own clippers, pruners, loppers and a friend; event open to all ages. All participants must complete a liability release form. If under 18 and not accompanied by a parent, request a form in advance and bring signed by a parent to the event. ANGELS CAMP
What: Living History Day
When: Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Angels Camp Museum, 753 S. Main St.
Info: Visitors will be transported back in time every second Saturday of each month as docents re-create life in a California Gold Rush town. Artisans exhibits in the Mining and Ranching Building include a carpenter’s shop, print shop and textile shop, each staffed by informed docents ready to demonstrate their respective craft. What: Columbia Big Band Jazz Festival

The festival will feature more than 400 students from 18 high school and middle school band departments. Info: Covenant Village of Turlock will offer the lecture “Understanding Veterans’ Benefits”. The lecture will be led by Ryan T. Kegley from Department of Aging and Veterans Services.
