Train crashes into car in Turlock; drivers should use alternate routes around area
A train crashed into a car Saturday evening at a railroad crossing in Turlock, but the occupants were able to get out in time.
There were no injuries in the collision at W. Monte Vista Avenue and Golden State Boulevard, according to Capt. Kevin Tidwell of the Turlock Fire Department.
Officials warned drivers to use alternate routes around the tracks at Monte Vista and Golden State Boulevard, which were closed. The tracks at Golden State at Tuolumne Avenue also were closed, Tidwell said. Golden State remained open to traffic.
The fire department posted a photo on its Twitter page that showed the back of the car sheared off by the train.
The fire department received a call around 6:30 p.m. of a car vs. train, Tidwell said. "Our crews arrived and the occupants were out of the vehicle."
About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, fire officials announced the railroad crossings were now open to traffic.
