Info: Modesto City Schools seeks input from the community on a variety of topics related to community involvement, school engagement and school/district climate. The district will use the feedback for development of their 2018-2019 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

What: Agriculture Scholarships

When: Deadline: Thursday, Feb 1 at 5 p.m.

Info: Save Mart will offer 15 $1,000 scholarships. The National Future Farmers of America Organization will help administer the program. FFA’s selection process takes into account a student’s entire background: FFA involvement, work experience, academics and more. ANGELS CAMP

What: Living History Day

When: Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Angels Camp Museum, 753 S. Main St.

Info: Visitors will be transported back in time every second Saturday of each month as docents re-create life in a Calfornia Gold Rush town. Artisan's exhibits in the Mining and Ranching building include a carpenter's shop, print shop and textile shop, each staffed by informed docents ready to demonstrate their respective craft. What: Student Voices Campaign

Info: The Student Voices Campaign is a video competition sponsored by the California Alliance for Arts Education. The competition theme asks students to consider the question, “Why the Arts Matter?”. This annual video competition, is a statewide initiative that provides a creative way for students in grades 7-12, to impact school policymaking and make their voices heard. Students are to create a short video, 2-minutes or less, that shows a meaningful, compelling story of why the arts matter to you, someone you know, and/or to the school or community. ESCALON

What: Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

When: Saturday, Jan. 27, 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Where: Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave.

Info: The Escalon United Methodist Church invites the public to its annual speghetti dinner fundraiser. The dinner is all-you-can-eat and includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad with Italian dressing, garlic French bread, ice cream cup dessert and punch or coffee to drink. Take-out dinners are available. Tickets are $8; children 5-12 $4; under 5 free. All funds go to help programs of the church. For more information contact the church office at 209-838-2020.

100 YEARS AGO: The Turlock High School boys basketball team defeated Modesto High School for the county championship. The Bulldogs defeated the Panthers 42 to 25 to complete a perfect season, 21-0. Turlock would then go on to the State Championship finals to face either Fresno, Porterville or Bakersfield.
