50 YEARS AGO: It was reported that a bid of $441,990 was made to build 125 migrant homes. The bid was presented to the commissioners of the Stanislaus County Housing Authority. The commissioners noted that the bid was the lowest that came in but was still higher than what the authority had to spend on the project. The authority was assured that the project would still be built, but the rent for the homes would have to be higher than what was advertised at the beginning of the bidding process. The Farmers Home Loan Administration offered the authority a loan of $1,047,500 to cover the higher costs.
