40 YEARS AGO: Members of the Modesto Board of Education voted 4-3 not to rescind its decision granting salary increases to 154 school district administration staffers. Modesto Teachers Association representatives said the salary increases were an unfair treatment to management because the pay raises were higher than what was granted to teachers and classified employees. The raises amounted to a 1 to 25 percent increase, as compared to teachers being given a 4.75 percent raise at the end of the previous year.
