What: Senior Day Dances

When: Thursdays 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Stanislaus Veterans Center Hall, Coffee Road and Sylvan Avenue

Info: Come out and listen/dance to the warm sounds of Bonnie and the Boys Out Back band. $5 entry fee, $5 sandwich and chips. These dances help to support the Veterans Foundation of Stanislaus County, the operator of the hall and conference center. For more information, call: 209-343-6292.

Info: The Veterans Foundation of Stanislaus County invites veterans and guests to its Happy Hour Fridays in the Stanislaus Veterans Center lounge. There will be cocktails and draft beers on hand for purchase, as well as free popcorn. For more information, contact Becky Crow, 209-484-7166.

What: Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

When: Saturday, Jan. 27, 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Where: Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave.

Info: The Escalon United Methodist Church invites the public to its annual speghetti dinner fundraiser. The dinner is all-you-can-eat and includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad with Italian dressing, garlic French bread, ice cream cup dessert and punch or coffee to drink. Take-out dinners are available. Tickets are $8; children 5-12 $4; under 5 free. All funds go to help programs of the church. For more information contact the church office at 209-838-2020.

What: Skirts ‘N Flirts Square Dance Club

When: Wednesday, 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Where: Oakdale Grange Hall, 30 Lambuth Ave. (at F St.)

Info: The Skirts ‘N Flirts Square Dance Club will sponsor a new dancer class. Classes are open to singles, couples and children 10 or older (accompanied by an adult). 40 YEARS AGO: The city of Manteca adopted two “sex ordinances” by a unanimous vote. The ordinances were identical to those that the city of Riverbank had adopted the year before. The Manteca city council voted to prohibit the establishment of adult entertainment businesses within city limits. The wording of the ordinances prohibited businesses such as nude wrestling centers, nude encounter studios or massage parlors, nude theaters and more.
